Centre, CBI 'mishandled' 1984 riots case: Sikh group

A Sikh community group today  accused the CBI and the Centre of "mishandling" the 1984 riots cases, and demanded justice in the matter.

The All India Sikh Conference (Babbar) led by Gurcharan Singh Babbar said the government granted sanction to CBI to charge-sheet senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in the riots case, but did not mention the other people involved in it.

"The government is giving false assurance to the Sikh community by naming only Sajjan Kumar in the case. But what about the 72 police officers who were earlier found guilty by a committee formed by Delhi police," Babbar told reporters.

He claimed that the government has failed to investigate the alleged involvement of many "eminent" persons in the anti-Sikh riots. The CBI and the Centre have "mishandled" the matter, he alleged.

The Sikh body requested Delhi police commissioner YS Dadwal to intervene and punish the guilty officers of his department.

Babbar said the Sikh community across the world would launch vehement protests against CBI and the government if justice is not done in the case. Sikh NRIs would hold protests during any visit of government officials to foreign countries, Babbar said.
