Celestial treat for Barodians

Large number of enthusiasts in Vadodara had gathered on top of their house or buildings to witness the celestial event.

Youngsters from 18 countries including Egypt, Switzerland, China, Poland and Spain, pursuing an exchange programme were excited to witness darkness of night at dawn. Bakulesh Gupta, chairman of Gujarat Public School (GPS), where these youths are studying said, that arrangments for projector with special filters were made by the school for the occasion.

Students from 123 schools in the city and hundreds of skygazers viewers turned up at GPS to witness the celestial spectacle, he said. "It is worth to be here despite the clouds hindering and obstructing the solar esclipse as it is a rare occasion of the century," said Fieba from Egypt. Meanwhile, to study the effects of the Total Solar Eclipse (TSE), movement of fishes, birds, plants and trees were videographed and monitored by the research team of scientists from Astronomical Society of Ahmedabad in collaboration with teachers and students of city-based National and Urmi school.

Nearly 100 students from Urmi School are researching the prior and post TSE effects on atmosphere, earthern land temperature and velocity of winds, Darshan Purohit an astronomer with Sardar Patel planetarium, run by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation said.In Rajkot, sky watchers particularly children gathered at near Aji river and Shastri Maidan to witness the longest solar eclipse of the century but were disappointed as weather played spoilsport.

People left after waiting for an hour and half to watch the eclipse as cloudy conditions blocked the view.
