Alarmed by the trend of obsolete and stereotypical teaching, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked schools affiliated with the board to promote innovative practice in teaching, learning and mentoring of students.

Giving the information, CBSE officials have informed that schools are not practicing innovative teaching and a regular kind of teaching is being carried out in the schools. With the change in the demographics, there will soon be an increase of younger population. Thus, innovation is needed in schools to make the students get interested in studies, the official said.

“There is a need to motivate schools so that they come out of the traditional treatment of education and become more productive and innovative. The board wants them to be innovative in its learning ways,” said a CBSE official.

Board has asked the schools to develop innovative ways in science labs so that they can act as agent of change for other innovations.

“If science teaching can be made innovative in science labs, it will ignite several students in performing well,” added the official. The board has also asked to turn school libraries into resource centre to promote knowledge.

“Students have lost the habit of reading in library. If libraries can actually be turned into resource centres, this will help in making them aware with lots of things,” said librarian from a private school in Jaipur. The board has asked schools to upload the videos of their initiatives on its website with the proof.

The schools can upload the videos on board’s website which will set an example for other schools.
