Concerned about Sylvester Daniel's security, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has written a letter to the Gujarat and Rajasthan police asking them to keep the alleged gangster in jail and not to bring him out for any court hearing.

Sylvester's testimony is an important link to solve the alleged Sohrabuddin Shaikh and Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter cases. Following Saturday's incident, where he escaped and was later nabbed late in the night near Udaipur, the central agency is keeping a close watch on his movements.

The CBI, it is believed, is not happy with the whole development, in which the alleged gangster managed to escape from the clutches of Gujarat police while being brought back to Vadodara from Udaipur after a court hearing. He was being taken in a police van from Vadodara Central Jail, and was escorted by four policemen. He escaped on Friday night after giving policemen liquor and was caught after 26 hours.

Fearing threat to his life, sources claimed that the CBI has asked the Gujarat and Rajasthan DGPs as well as local police of both the states to remain alert and not bring him out of jail.

Sources say the investigating agency has asked the police department of both the states to conduct routine health check-up and court proceedings inside the jail premises only. The CBI has also asked the jail authorities to arrange for video conferencing of his court proceedings.

The central agency began investigation into Prajapati encounter case in May 2011 as per the directions of the Supreme Court. In July, the investigating agency had also reconstructed the scene at encounter site.

Prajapati, a close ally of Sohrabuddin, was killed on December 28, 2006 at Chhapri village near Ambaji. Sylvester, a close friend of Sohrabuddin and Prajapati, is believed to know many things about these encounters and so he has been made a witness in these cases
