The process for a CBI probe into the Rs1000 crore North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) scam case was underway, according to Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi today.
In a writen reply to Kamala Kanta Kalita (AGP) in the assembly on behalf of the chief minister, forest minister Rockybul Hussain said a letter was sent to the CBI for conducting the probe.
The state government had received a letter from the union home ministry favouring a CBI probe and the state chief secretary has wrote to the the central investigative agency to take appropriate action, Hussain said.
Gogoi had said in New Delhi on February 25 that his government would recommended CBI probe into the scam.
A national weekly magazine had carried a report alleging that names of seven Assam ministers, a Congress MP and MLA and a former governor have been mentioned in the National Investigation Agency's report on misuse of development fund for the NCHAC.
