A day after DNA exposed the gross errors on the website of the central bureau of investigation (CBI) regarding the information on the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi the agency corrected the flaw on Tuesday. The premier investigative agency in its website www.cbi.nic.in had published information regarding the assassination case of Gandhi.

However, there was a major flaw in the information, the agency while patting its own back on its investigations into the case said that Thenmozhi Rajaratnam alias Dhanu of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was sentenced to death by the trial court as well as the Supreme Court (SC), whereas, infact, she had died in the explosion that killed Gandhi on May 21, 1991 in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai. Whereas the website said that she has been awarded death sentence by the court.

The error assumes significance in the backdrop of the major embarrassment which CBI had caused to itself and the country, when earlier this year, it had goofed-up in the 50-most wanted list, which was given to Pakistan. The list had names of two suspects, who CBI claimed to be in Pakistan, but were, in reality, found to be in India itself.

After this, the CBI had promised to clear all flaws on the website and ensure that errors do not creep in. However, inspite of the assurances, the error regarding Rajiv Gandhi assassination managed to find its way on the CBI website.
