The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) may hold the one-day CAT-2009 for admission to the premier B-schools, on a few other dates beyond December 7, 2009. Sources said that this might become necessary as the exam was disrupted by a virus attack at nearly 50 computer labs in 24 different centres on Saturday.

As the affected labs could not be used for the exam on Sunday either, aspirants who were assigned these labs for Sunday’s test could not take the exam as scheduled.

A meeting of Prometric officials with IIM directors is scheduled for late Sunday evening to discuss the disruption of the exam. One outcome of the meeting could be holding of CAT-2009 on a few more dates after December 7. This may become necessary to allow aspirants who could not take the exam because of the virus attack, to appear in the test on a different date.

Prof Satish Deodhar of IIM-Ahmedabad, who is also the convener of the IIMs’ CAT committee, said he was not sure yet whether or not the number of days on which CAT-2009 is to be held will be increased to over 10 days.

“But an urgent meeting of IIM directors with Prometric officials has been scheduled for late in the evening today,” Deodhar said. “The cause of the disruption and
the possible solutions of the problem may be discussed. The meeting might lead
to some concrete decision on what needs to be done.”
