Despite probing the cash-for-vote scam to best of their ability, the Delhi police is still clueless about the money trail in the July 2008 trust motion faced by the Congress-led UPA-I government.

Delhi police’s supplementary chargesheet filed before special judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal tells how all efforts to know the source of money remain failed till now.

“There is no abnormal withdrawal from the accounts of accused Amar Singh. Detailed efforts have been made to link the money trail but there is no system in the banks to record the number of currency notes at the time of payment to the customers,” the police said in its supplementary chargesheet.
The chargesheet, which gave details of the bank accounts held by Singh and his wife Pankaja Kumar Singh, does not list any more persons as accused.

Police have given details of four bank accounts in the chargesheet from June 1 to July 31, 2008 to ascertain whether the money displayed in the Lok Sabha during the trust vote on July 22, 2008 had come from his account or not.

During the period, the maximum amount withdrawn from Singh’s four bank accounts in Royal Bank of Scotland, Yes Bank, State Bank of India and United Bank of India, was only Rs5.17 lakh.

Public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan submitted to the court that though they have completed their investigations in some aspects of the case, their overall probe into the scam is not yet complete.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar has granted prosecution sanction for proceeding against BJP MP Ashok Argal.

The Delhi Police had, in its first charge sheet, accused Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and LK Advani’s former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni of conspiring and masterminding the cast-for-vote scam to bribe some MPs ahead of a confidence vote in Lok Sabha in 2008.

It had also named two former BJP MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahabir Singh Bhagora along with Sanjeev Saxena, former aide of Amar Singh and Suhail Hindustani, alleged BJP activist, who are in judicial custody.
