Carlton Tower blaze accused sent in judicial custody

Three of the four persons, arrested in connection with the fire at the Carlton Towers complex which claimed nine lives, were today  remanded in 14 days judicial custody, police said.

However, Rafiq-ur-Rehman, who owns some of the shops in the building and is secretary of the Building Owners Association, has been further remanded in police custody till March three.

Rafiq's police custody has been sought for the purpose of investigation, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ulsoor
Division) G B Manjunath, who is heading the inquiry into the
incident, said.

The three other accused, Carlton security in-charge Ramachandra Bhandari, electrical in-charge Kempegowda and building maintenance in-charge Chennaiah, have been remanded
in judicial custody till March 15.

The four were arrested on Saturday. 

A major fire at the Carlton Towers Building complex housing many software firms and a restaurant claimed nine lives and left over 50 injured on February 23.
