Cameras at prominent places to keep watch on vandals in Maharashtra

Gearing up to tackle any contingency in wake of tomorrow's bandh call to protest against spiralling fuel prices, Maharashtra government has decided to install video cameras at prominent places to keep a watch on vandals.

"Video cameras would be installed at prominent places in the state to keep a watch on vandals in wake of tomorrow's bandh," additional chief secretary (home) Chandra Iyengar told PTI.

Regarding moving Supreme Court against Monday's bandh by BJP and Left parties, Iyengar said, "We are in touch with the Centre. The Centre will take a call on it."

Enlisting preventive measures taken, Iyengar said the home department will be in touch with all the district collectors via video conferencing, several trouble-mongers have been detained and notices have been issued to those with criminal record.

She said while government hospitals would remain open, protection would be provided to private ones if sought for.

While ensuring regular water supply in Mumbai, routes of several buses have been changed and more vehicles are also pressed into service, she added.

Also, it is compulsory for all government employees to report on duty, she added.
