Amid allegations of corruption in Commonwealth Games projects, cabinet secretary KM Chandrashekhar has conveyed concern over the charges as well as delay in preparations to the Organising Committee of the mega sporting event.

Chandrashekhar held a review meeting today which was attended by secretaries of agencies concerned, including officials of the CWG Organising Committee, youth and sports ministry, urban development ministry and tourism ministry.

He made known his concern over the delays in projects and the charges of corruption, including the observations made by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) that some tenders might have been awarded improperly, causing losses to the tune of crores of rupees, sources said.

He will be visiting the Games sites soon to inspect the preparations and related issues, sources said.

The CVC has asked chief vigilance officers to re-examine all the tenders and procurement process related to the projects.

Along with the allegations of corruption, concerns are being expressed over the delay in projects.

Chandrasekhar and Lt governor Tejendra Khanna on July 24 took stock of the preparations for the games and directed the agencies concerned to put their maximum efforts to make the event a grand success.

Reflecting anxiety, chief minister Sheila Dikshit had on July 23 ordered the agencies concerned to work through nights to finish the works within the final deadline of August 31.

She even offered extra salary of one month to employees for completing projects on time.
