Building collapse: People's wrath makes Kapil Sibal go back without seeing injured

Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal tonight faced the ire of people at a government hospital when he arrived there to visit those injured in the Old Delhi building collapse.

Sibal came to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital soon after two buildings collapsed in Chandni Mahal area near Jama Masjid, but could not come out as a number of people surrounded his vehicle.

The Union Minister represents Chandni Chowk constituency in Lok Sabha under which the Chandni Mahal area is located.

As soon as his vehicle arrived, locals who had gathered at the hospital protested and surrounded his vehicle. He could not get out of the vehicle and due to protests, he returned without visiting the injured.

Locals also entered into a minor clash with police in the hospital premises when the latter tried to control them.

There was a commotion when hospital authorities announced the death of some of the victims.

Locals tried to enter the hospital in large numbers, but was prevented by police. This led to a minor clash between police and locals but none was injured.

The situation was brought under control soon.
