BSP leader shot dead on camera in Uttar Pradesh

An unidentified man today shot dead a local BSP leader Hanuman Saran Shukla during an Ambedkar Jayanti programme attended by hundreds of party workers and managed to escape despite heavy security.

Shukla was taking the dais near the Panchayat Sabhagar and collectorate compound after garlanding Ambedkar's statue when an unknown assailant reached near him, defying heavy security, and fired at him before escaping, police said.

Shukla, who suffered injuries in his head was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, they said.

About three dozen party leaders including MLAs and coordinators were on the dais and hundreds of workers at the venue when the assailant opened fire.

Besides the police, PAC was also deployed there.

The incident led to commotion at the venue site.

Shukla, manager of some seven educational institutions, was president of Tarabganj unit of the BSP.
