The city's main power distribution company BSES has upgraded its network at all venues of the Commonwealth Games at a cost of Rs74 core to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply during the sporting event that starts in October.

"We have strengthened our distribution system at all the Commonwealth Games venues at a cost of Rs74 crore. We are making fool-proof arrangements at the venues to take care of any unforeseen power supply related contingency," said a BSES official.

He said latest gadgets and equipment are being fitted in the distribution network to predict any possible disruption in the supply line.

"All venues in BSES areas will have double source power supply from different grid stations. This is to ensure that if one source fails, there is no disruption of power supply from the other," he said.

The official said a disaster management group has been constituted to chalk out a multi-pronged strategy to secure important BSES locations.

The company has also procured a brand-new fleet of operations and maintenance vehicles to be manned by highly trained engineers. These vehicles will be stationed near the Games venues and will be in constant touch with BSES stations.

"BSES' state-of-the-art Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system will play an important role in maintaining uninterrupted power supply during the Games," added the official.

"An extensive second round of maintenance programme at all the grid-substations feeding the CWG venues is underway. It should be completed in the next few days," he said.
