BRTS in Surat: First phase approved

The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) standing committee has approved the first route for the 495-crore BRTS project in Surat.

The 10.2 km route will be developed between Udhna Darwaja and Sachin and will be of RCC. The work on preparing road will begin shortly, once all the procedures are completed.

The 10.2 km RCC road project was given to Cube Constructions and Relcon Infrastructure at cost of Rs78.21 crore. The road will be prepared as per the designs provided by the BRTS consultant Urban Mass Transit System (UMTS).

Apart from the road, other basic infrastructure requirements needed for the route will also be prepared by the bidder. It will complete site clearance, prepare by-lanes, three subways. One subway will be prepared at Kharvar Nagar, Unn and Bhagwati Nagar, for easier movement of traffic.

“Work on the route will get started in few days time and I hope it will get completed in stipulated time. Estimates for the other route, which is canal route from Dumas to Sarthana is complete and we have also floated tenders. Once we get a proper bidder work will be tabled before standing committee for approval,” Bharat Shah, head of BRTS project of SMC, said.
