A delegation of businessmen associated with the Udyog cell of the BJP visited Valladolid, Spain along with office-bearers of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The delegation explored the business potential with Spain, Germany and other European countries, promoting the Vibrant Gujarat summit.
The businessmen met with the Valladolid Chamber of Commerce and Industry, making presentations on ‘Why Gujarat is a preferred destination for investment’ and the economy of Gujarat. “We want to promote Brand Gujarat in European countries,” said Navin Patel, convener of the BJP’s Udyog cell. He said that the mayor of Valladolid was impressed by the growth in Gujarat and was eager to participate in next the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit.
The delegation of businessmen also visited the technology park in Boesillo, around 40 km from Valladolid, which employs around 15,000 people. They explored the business opportunities in various fields such as garments, engineering, infrastructure and renewable energy.
Patel said that the garments and casting suppliers have good business opportunities in Europe. Garment retailers operate with a 100 per cent margin, which may favour manufacturers in Gujarat, he said. Garments costing Rs300 in the Indian retail market are sold at Euros 22, which is around three times the price, he said. Spain has a population of around 4.5 crore, but its trading volume is equal to that of India, which shows the business potential of the country.
Collaboration with European countries will also enable the engineering sector in Gujarat to use the advanced technology of these countries. “We are far behind in technology, when compared to European countries. Instead of spending time on research, we should adopt their technology for our benefit,” said Kirit Patel, president of the Vatva Industries Association, who was part of the delegation.
He was all praise for the city of Valladolid for the awareness of environment and pollution there. “The city has created a sump with capacity of 4,000 million gallons of water, which is used to treat stormwater before it is released into rivers,” he said. The BJP’s Udyog cell will be in touch with European countries constantly, the convener of the body said.
The delegation also included Bhimraj Pawar and Vijay Purohit, president and vice-president of the Gujarat Garment Manufacturers Association, along with representatives of the Odhav Industries Association and real estate developers.
