Bombs were hurled by unidentified persons at Bankra in Howrah district today after the Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) won three seats each in a managing committee of a school, police sources said.

The TC and CPI(M) won three seats each in the managing committee elections in the Badamtala High School yesterday in the jurisdiction of the Sankrail police station.

Meanwhile, a bandh paralysed normal life in the district called by the CPI(M), coinciding with a student strike across the state to protest the death of Swapan Koley, a student who was killed in a clash between CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress student unions at the Prabhu Jagat Bandhu College on December 16.

Educational institutions and banks were closed and traffic off the roads, where the CPI(M) had set up road blockades.

Railway and highway traffic were unaffected, the sources said.
