BJP today welcomed the cabinet decision to include death penalty in the anti-hijacking law but wondered why the government was sitting over this long-pending proposal.
"BJP has always supported any action of the government on controlling terror. This is a good effort by the government.
Though it has come late, it is welcome," BJP spokesperson
Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.
The former minister of state for civil aviation wondered why this law was delayed for so long and said "This has been a long-pending demand. We are wondering why it was being delayed."
BJP used this opportunity to also take on the government for not hanging Afzal Guru, who has been given a death sentence by the Supreme Court for his role in the Parliament attack case.
"Despite the death sentence by the Supreme Court to Afzal Guru, he has not been hanged. Government should take action in the matter to give a message against terror. Why this delay?" Rudy said.
