BJP MLAs staged a walk out from the Delhi assembly today when they were not given opportunity to speak on a private member's resolution on adulteration of milk and food articles presented by a party legislator.

After BJP MLA Kulwant Rana presented the resolution asking for stringent action against those involved in adulteration of milk and food articles, his party colleagues wanted to speak on the subject.

But as deputy speaker Amrish Gautam refused to allow more discussion on the subject and asked health minister Kiran Walia to speak, BJP legislators protested the decision and staged a walk out.

Replying to the resolution, Walia said Government was taking all necessary steps to check adulteration of food articles.

"We have stepped up our vigil. The entire machinery has been revamped to check food adulteration," she said adding that 2,438 cases have been filed in courts in the last 10 years against those involved in such crimes. The resolution was defeated in the House.

The House could not hold discussion on two other private members' resolutions as they were to be tabled by BJP legislators.

Earlier, leader of opposition VK Malhotra asked the health minister to take strong action against those involved in giving misleading advertisements in the media claiming to cure sexual disorders.

"It is Rs20,000 crore market and the Government must take action against those who are exploiting people," he said. Replying to a discussion on auto rickshaws, transport minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said Government was trying to "discipline the three wheeler fleet" and even contemplating to make it mandatory to install GPS devices on them.
