Congress today condemned the behaviour of BJP MPs in Lok Sabha yesterday during the reply of home minister P Chidambaram to the discussion on the Liberhan Commission report, terming it as "unruly and unparliamentary."

"We condemn the unruly, unparliamentary, undemocratic behaviour of BJP MPs during the debate...They avoided Parliamentary and democratic methods by resorting to disrupting Parliament in an undignified way by sloganeering, smirking and even at times howling and throwing paper balls at the home minister," party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters here.

She said the party condemned this conduct in most "severest terms" adding "it was a black mark on our Parliamentary democracy, for which the BJP was answerable".

Describing the demolition of the disputed structure as a "heinous crime in India's political history", Natarajan said the debate would examine the issue and it was important for the people and the nation to be aware of its full contours.

Asked about the apology of prime minister Manmohan Singh on Congress MP Beni Prasad Verma's remarks against former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Natarajan said, "it is a mark of graciousness of the PM and his total commitment to Parliamentary democracy".

She refused to answer further queries on the matter.

Verma, talking to reporters outside Parliament earlier today said he was unrepentant and there was nothing more to add as the "PMs statement speaks for itself".

Pandemonium broke out in the Lower House yesterday when Verma used demeaning remarks against Vajpayee during the debate on Liberhan commission's findings.
