BJP legislator Madhu Srivastava will get back his licensed German revolver, seized by the police last year, after a local court order.
Talking to PTI here today, the MLA said the police had seized the revolver after he fired four rounds in the air on March 23, 2008 in the Baroda Milk Dairy Complex near here.
"I had done so as part of celebration of Dhuleti festival," (festival of colours) as a huge crowd had assembled there," Srivastava said.
Riding a horse, Srivastava had led a procession of his supporters and taken out a sword tied on his body before opening fire in the air.
A case was registered against him with Makarpura police here charging the ruling party MLA with violating a police notification banning carrying of lethal weapons and creating atmosphere of fear. His revolver was also seized.
After a trial, the local court on July 15 this year ordered the police to return the revolver to Srivastava and allowed the prosecution three months to approach a higher court against the ruling.
After the expiry of the deadline, Srivastava approached the court seeking return of the weapon and his plea was granted yesterday.
