New Delhi: Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav created a flutter in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday as he read out certain lines in Jaswant Singh's book A Call to Honour which said that the former external affairs minister drank champagne to celebrate the release of passengers.
Jaswant Singh wrote that after the mission to Kandahar was completed and the plane was brought to India he served champagne to officials.
Yadav was intervening in a discussion on Mumbai blasts in the Lok Sabha. Lalu raised the book and said, "The minister (Jaswant Singh) went and handed over the terrorists. What is worse, they gave dakshina... I do not know English."
After a pause he read out a few lines where there was mention of "champagne". Deliberately mispronouncing the word "champagne" as "champain," Lalu said "Arre champain peena wale, you are talking about terrorism? You celebrate the (hijack) incident with champain....?"
