The BJP today came down hard on the Delhi government for failing to regularise the unauthorised colonies which were issued provisional regularisation certificates just before the assembly election in 2008.
Raising the issue in the assembly, senior BJP leader V K Malhotra wondered why the government had distributed provisional regularisation certificates even though it knew that some of the colonies fall under forest land.
The party staged a walk out alleging government's failure to ensure development in over 1,600 unauthorised colonies in
the city.
Earlier, replying to a question, Urban development minister A K Walia tried to pacify the opposition legislators and gave them a brief account of the difficulties being faced by the government in regularising all the unauthorised colonies.
He said government will not have any problem in regularisation of 1,100 colonies. Walia said forest department and Archaeological Survey of India have objected to regularisation of certain colonies.
The Delhi government had issued provisional regularisation certificates to 1,218 unauthorised colonies ahead of the Assembly election. The government has plans to authorise 1,639 colonies.
Walia said the government was expediting the process of regularising the unauthorised colonies as soon as possible.
In 121 colonies, government agencies have found that the built-up areas are less than fifty per cent while in 10 others it was found that there is no such area.
