BJP on Friday expelled 11 members of its Mumbai unit, including secretary of north-east district wing Dilip Shinde and secretary of Ghatkopar Assembly segment Sunil Shinde for anti-party activities, ahead of the February 16 BMC poll.
Dilip Shinde had rebelled against party's official candidate and senior corporator Bhalchandra Shirsat, who is contesting from ward no 124 and was therefore expelled from the party, city BJP president Raj Purohit said.
Sachin Pawar of ward no 126, who is contesting as an independent against an RPI candidate (RPI is part of the sena-BJP mega alliance) has been expelled, he said.
Pawar's supporters and ward president Harish Bolar, general secretary Vilas Bachhav, Ravindra Alwe and general secretary of Yuva morcha Prashant Shetty have also been expelled from the party.
Ghatkopar BJP women wing's general secretary Sulochana Mhatre, who is contesting against RPI candidate in ward no 128 has also been expelled, along with her supporter and local BJP functionary Ravi Netavate, Prakash Pillay and Amit Mithbawkar.
Earlier this week, the party had dismissed Parag Alwani, general secretary of the party's city unit and four corporators from the party for "anti-party" activities.
