Bhopal: A BJP corporator of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been sent to jail following a local court order against him for showing black flags to late Congress leader HKL Bhagat here two decades ago.
However, the quantum of sentence (duration of jail term) has not yet been decided by the court.
The judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Ashish Pratap Singh ordered yesterday that BJP corporator of BMC, Pushpendra Jain be sent to prison when the latter approached the sessions court with a request to quash his arrest warrant pertaining to the 1989 case.
An arrest warrant was pending against Jain for a long time for showing black flags to Bhagat during his visit to the city in 1989.
Since the corporator wanted to contest the next month civic body elections, Jain approached the court to clear the legal obstruction in his way for contesting the polls but the JMFC ordered that he be sent to jail.
Abiding by the court order, the police sent him to jail yesterday, sources said here today.
