BJP has complained to the Election Commission against the Jharkhand government for providing wrong co-ordinates to the pilots of a helicopter carrying senior party leader LK Advani and NDA convener Sharad Yadav during an election tour in naxal-infested areas.
BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who lodged the complaint, today said the incident occurred yesterday when Advani and Yadav had gone to Jharkhand to address joint rallies in Nallah (Jamtar District), Goddah and Devghar district.
"The two leaders left yesterday morning from Bokaro to Nallah in a helicopter and co-ordinates for Nallah were provided by the state government officials in writing to the pilots," Naqvi said.
However, the coordinates given were wrong and the pilots kept hovering for 45 minutes but were unable to find the spot where the rally was being held, he alleged.
Finally the pilots used the co-ordinates available for Goddah and landed there, he said.
"The pilots realised that the fuel in the helicopter was about to finish and they had to land. Such an incident in one of the most-sensitive naxal-infested areas is a big security lapse and it appears to be a deliberate attempt," Naqvi alleged.
Jharkhand is under President's Rule for the past few months and the first phase of assembly polls will be held on November 25.
Naqvi has demanded strong action against the erring officials, besides ensuring adequate security for the leaders. He has also sought posting of efficient officers in sensitive areas.
