Under attack from Congress on the issue of development and corruption in poll-bound Punjab and Uttarakhand where it is in power, BJP today hit back saying the ruling party should first check its own track record.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh attacked the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab, saying the state which was once a frontrunner in all spheres had now fallen behind.
Addressing an election rally in his hometown Amritsar, he asked the electorate to overthrow the present regime and bring back Congress to power in the state.
"The prime minister talks about the development in Punjab. Instead he should talk about the little development which has taken place (in the country) in the last seven years," BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.
Referring to Gandhi targeting former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on the issue of corruption, Prasad said the Congress chief should also refer to allegations of corruption against Home Minister P Chidambaram and External Affairs Minister SM Krishna.
"She has never spoken about (former telecom minister) A Raja and the CAG report on Commonwealth Games and the people involved in it," he said.
Addressing a rally in Almora, Gandhi said the BJP is responsible for widespread corruption in every nook and corner of the state.
"It was due to corruption that BJP was forced to change its chief minister," she said.
