Expelled Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh has left no stone unturned to defend “elder brother” actor Amitabh Bachchan.
The actor had accepted Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s offer to be the brand ambassador of the state.
Bachchan’s recent rendezvous with Modi had set the political
grapevine abuzz. Several leaders in the SP speculated that Singh was using the actor to gain Modi’s support for entry into the BJP.
Trashing all rumours, Singh said, “Bachchan had gone to meet chief minister Narendra Modi and not the RSS member Modi… insinuations that he is drifting towards the BJP at my behest are completely false.”
Bachchan, on his part, has clarified that he was endorsing Gujarat as a state and not the politics of its controversial chief minister.
The expelled leader’s detractors in the SP, however, stressed that there’s more to the Bachchan-Modi bonhomie than meets the eye.
