Bengal minister heckled by building promoter

West Bengal fire services minister Javed Khan was today heckled by a building promoter and his companions in Kolkata's Tiljala area, police said.

The incident occurred during Khan's visit to the area after two labourers were seriously injured when they fell from a building being constructed by the promoter.

When Khan alleged that the building was constructed illegally, the promoter got into an altercation with the minister and some of his men shoved some locals who supported Khan.

Khan lodged a complaint of physical assault against the promoter.

Holding the promoter responsible for most of the illegal constructions in the area, Khan said the man would silence any protest from locals by bringing in toughs from outside.

"I have requested the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to clamp down on illegal construction in the area. I'll also talk to the mayor about this," Khan said.
