Hailing it as the first step towards meting out justice to 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal today said the framing of charges of murder and rioting against Sajjan Kumar in the carnage confirms that it was orchestrated by the Congress.

"The framing of charges of murder and rioting against Sajjan Kumar is the first step towards getting justice to the victims of the '84 carnage after a 26 year-long struggle. It also confirms that the anti Sikh carnage was orchestrated by the Congress," the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP from Punjab said in a statement here.

Calling the Congress leader as one of the architects of of the massacre, she said it was matter of shame Sikhs had to fight for 26 long years to get the FIR of murders registered and the first murder charge after the carnage could be framed after a long struggle.

Harsimrat, who is also the wife of Punjab's deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, alleged that for "reasons known to everyone", Congress, besides shielding the main culprits of
’84 anti-Sikh carnage, gave them powerful official posts like
union minister to empower them to influence and coerce
vulnerable witnesses to retract from their statements.

She alleged that even the present Congress-led UPA sat
for more than three years over granting sanction for the prosecution of Sajjan Kumar.

Noting that intentions of Congress-led UPA were clear with clean chit to another Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a riot case, she said justice for carnage victims cannot be ensured till Union government concedes to the demand of SAD for constituting special investigation team under the supervision of Supreme court for reinvestigating all ’84 carnage cases.

A Delhi court yesterday framed charges of murder and rioting against senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and others in connection with a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in which six persons were killed in Sultanpuri in the national capital.
