Namma Metro has closed its doors on the physically challenged from its technical posts.

On Thursday, the Secretariat issued a notification to exempt the disabled from technical posts in the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) like section engineers, junior engineers, track maintainers, station controllers, train operators and customer-relations managers.

Despite the powers conferred in Section 33 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act 1995, the state has reservations about the type of work that could be given to the physically challenged.

The notices were sent to the government, women and child development department, urban development department, law, justice and human rights department, the commissioner of persons with disabilities, BMRCL MD and other departments.
