Normal life was affected as most shops and business establishments in a number of towns in this tribal dominated district, including the district headquarters town of Nabarangpur, remained closed today in response to a bandh call given by Congress to protest the arrest and detention of Dabugam MLA Bhujabal Majhi by police.

Commercial transport and bus services remained off the road in the district.

Congress workers blocked the National Highway-201 for 12 hours near Congress Bhawan here. The party workers also demonstrated at Umerkote, Dabugam, Kosagumunda and Papadahandi demanding action against the police who they claimed "illegally" detained the MLA.
