Narendra Modi's BJP in the state is in crisis. With member of Parliament from Junagadh, Dinu Solanki, coming under cloud in RTI activist Amit Jethava's murder case and Modi's closest aide and minister of state for home Amit Shah being summoned by the CBI in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, BJP's stars do not seem to be favourably placed this week.

If indications are anything to go by, the crisis is going to get worse before it gets better. Despite Modi's iron clasp, internal chasms in the BJP are emerging. Sources in the BJP claim there is not much love lost between revenue minister Anandiben Patel, who is also Modi's another close aide, and Amit Shah.

When Shah was being issued summons by the CBI, Patel's camp kept working silently to politically turn the sentiment against Shah. Shah himself was maintaining a low profile, distancing himself from government as well as party functions.

He has been spending most of this time consulting a panel of eminent lawyers. His personal loss - death of his mother - did not help matters for him. In fact, for the past one year, Shah has been in a spot as far as Ishrat Jahan encounter and Sohrabuddin ghost are concerned.

Patel's faction suppressed their delight on Thursday when Shah was finally summoned by the CBI. Two factions, both equally strong, working against each other, are making life tough for the party cadres ahead of the crucial municipal corporation elections.

Meanwhile, the saffron party is gearing up to get political mileage to the hilt from Shah's arrest. Going by BJP spokesperson Vijay Rupani's statement on Thursday afternoon, it is evident that the case will be fought out in the political battlefield.

"The Congress is misusing the CBI against BJP-ruled states," Rupani said.  In New Delhi, BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said: "After selective leaks in the media, the CBI has now summoned him. It has established the lowest benchmark."
