Faizabad district magistrate and senior superintendent of police were issued court notices today over delay in producing witnesses and non-availability of evidences in the Ayodhya attack case of 2005.

Expressing concern over the delay in recording statements of witnesses and verification of evidences, the judge asked magistrate MP Agarwal and senior superintendent of police RKS Rathore to monitor the case for a smooth and speedy trial.

Additional district judge (Allahabad), Janardan Singh, has pulled up the prosecution for showing laxity in case. It asked the Faizabad district administration to "ensure presence of witnesses and evidences in the court."

During the previous hearing on December 1, the judge had expressed unhappiness over the non-availability of evidence. Witnesses were not coming on scheduled dates for recording their statements, prosecution counsel DS Lal said.

The evidences, which the police have failed to produce, include mobile phones, Sim cards and clothes of the terrorists recovered from the site of the attack.
