With the threat of spread of swine flu looming large, AMC officials will be on their toes to keep a check on spread of the virus during the week-long Kankaria Carnival that kicks off on December 25. The officials, however, have a request: 'If you have flu-like symptoms, avoid going to the carnival.'

A team of total 18 doctors will be posted at different gates to inspect visitors having health complaints as part of AMC's measures to check on spread of H1N1 virus. An estimated 20 lakh visitors will throng the carnival.

Amid the threat of the virus spreading during the carnival, the AMC has lined up enough entertaining activities for the visitors.

Around 16,500 kids are expected to participate in the Kankaria Carnival and take part in different activities planned during seven days. "Around 900 kids participating at an event at Science City would also participate in a performance here on December 28. Special kids will also be performing during the function," said municipal commissioner IP Gautam.

Talking about measures to deal with swine flu Gautam said, their request to the citizens will be to avoid going to the carnival if they have flu-like symptoms. It is also a general instruction to avoid being part of public gathering at railway station or bus station.

"Citizens have always co-operated and we expect their co-operation this time too to avoid spread of the disease," added Gautam.

Chief minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate second stretch of BRTS from Chandranagar to Pushpakunj and newly built double-decker snake house at Kankaria Zoo.
