The postmortem into the three of the ten dead bodies found in a creek in Goa in the last three days have revealed that the victims were murdered, police sources said tonight.
A panel of doctors from Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) conducted the postmortem this evening on the bodies of the three women who were burnt after being murdered.
All these bodies were found between October 12 and 13, a few kilometers away from Panaji. They were found at Khorjuvem, Verna and Merces villages. Police sources said that in two cases smothering has been the cause of death while in a third case relating to a 16-year-old girl, the death was caused due to strangulation.
All these cases are now registered as murder. Initially, two were registered as unnatural death which are now registered as murders, police sources said. The series of dead body recoveries from the parts of the state had alarmed the police who had constituted two special investigation teams to probe them.
Of the ten dead bodies, seven are of women and three of males, including a seven year old child. Police, who have launched an extensive investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of all the ten people, say all the cases cannot be linked.
"First, two bodies which were found at Morjim beach can be a case of suicide by lovers and four more bodies fished out of a creek in Panaji city relates to one family and seems to be a suicide too," a senior police official said.
Police are studying the investigation of four deaths, of which three were women who were burnt. "We are trying to find out whether there is any link between all the four women," a police officer said. Initial investigations have revealed that a burnt body found at Merces is that of a 60-year old local fisherwoman of Verna village on Margao-Panaji highway.
When contacted, Superintendent of Police (PRO) Atmaram Deshpande said the department is neither confirming nor ruling out anything at this moment. "The investigations are on," he added.
