Just two days after the state director-general of police (DGP) announced to beef up police patrolling and checks during the festive season, two robbers managed to enter the state capital with a revolver and attempted a robbery in broad daylight. The incident took place near Udyog Bhavan in Gandhinagar, barely a kilometre away from the high-security zone of Sachivalaya.

On Tuesday, two motorcycle-borne robbers tried to snatch a bag containing Rs4 lakh cash from a Bank of Baroda (BoB) cashier. However, a brave stand put up by two bank employees foiled their attempt.

Cashier Girish Barot and peon Manu Parmar, from BoB’s Sector 11 branch, were given the task of transporting Rs4 lakh to the bank’s Sector 21 branch. When they were about get into their Alto car parked outside their branch, the two robbers carrying a revolver came on a Bajaj Pulsar bike and attacked Parmar first, as he was carrying the cash-laden bag. One of the robbers also pulled out a revolver and asked Parmar to surrender the bag, but he refused. When the robbers tried to snatch the bag from him, Barot intervened and combated the devious duo.

The bank employees’ guts to fight back stunned the robbers and alerted other bystanders and commuters. In a final unsuccessful attempt to snatch the bag, the robbers dropped their revolver. They were then forced to flee the spot.

According to the Sector 7 police, there was no lead or clue as no one noted down the number of the robbers’ bike.  “The duo fled on their bike through the GH-4 circle and we have informed the police to search for them,” said Sector 7 police inspector AM Parmar.
