The Sabarmati police on Sunday registered an FIR against Asaram Bapu and two others for allegedly attempting to murder Raju Chandak, a former sadhak of the Asaram ashram. Chandak was shot and seriously injured on Saturday night by two men riding a motorcycle, in the Ramnagar locality of Sabarmati.

The police have registered the case under various sections of the IPC, including 307 (attempt to murder) 120-B (conspiracy to murder), and sections of the Arms Act.
The police have recorded the statement of Chandak who is currently recovering in SAL hospital. Police said Asaram is the prime accused in the case as the two criminals had fired at Chandak allegedly at the instance of Asaram.

Earlier, on September 10, 2009, Chandak had given statements before Justice DK Trivedi commission which is investigating into the mysterious death of two Ashram boys, Dipesh, 11, and 11-year-old Abhishek Vaghela. Chandak had told the probe commission that tantric rituals were performed at the ashram.
