The beginning of Shravan month marks the purchase of bilipatra as offering made to the Lord Shiva. Several ingredients including fruits and flowers are also offered at the temple. Thousands of devotees flock to the Lord Shiva temples early morning and say their prayers for the entire month of Shravan.

Amidst all this festivity, security at the Shiva temples has been beefed up keeping in mind the safety of the devotees, which is of prime concern to the city police.

As a matter of fact, many temples in the city have been equipped with CCTV cameras so as to keep a check on the activities of the devotees and passersby.

Speaking to DNA, a priest at Bileshwar Temple, Raju Bhatt said, "We have installed CCTV cameras to monitor any suspicious activity. We also have four personal security guards-two guarding the parking lot and two inside the temple premises -- to manage the crowd. This has simplified the work of the temple's administration, which in coming days will have to deal with thousands of more devotees."
Many temples have extended the visiting timings for Shravan. A priest of Parmeshwar Temple at Judges Bungalow Road said,

"We have declared that devotees are allowed to do their puja paath during this holy month between 5 am and 6:15 pm. During the entire year we don't extend the visiting timings."

Speaking on similar lines, Bhatt said during the month of Shravan, Bileshwar Temple will open its gates early morning for devotees so that they are able to perform their puja.

"Throughout the year we open the gates for the darshan at 6 am which this month has been changed to 5 am. The darshan goes on till 10 pm," said Bhatt. Speaking about the average number of devotees visiting the temple during Shravan month, Bhatt said,

"We get around 1,000-1,500 devotees during this month. Moreover, Mondays in this month is considered more auspicious, due to which the crowd increases to some 2,000 on this day of Shravan."
