An armyman allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself while on duty here, police said today.
Nayak Rajendra Singh, who was posted at Army unit at Joshimath in Uttarakhand, shot himself with service revolver yesterday while he was on duty, they said, adding he died instantly.
Later army officers of the unit informed the police, which sent his body for postmortem.
Singh was a native of Ludhiana in Punjab.
Police is trying to find out the reasons behind his decision to take the extreme step.
