Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry to investigate an alleged scam in procurement of shoes and other personal items for troops deployed on UN missions.
The probe was ordered after it came to light that over the past few years the army was spending double the market price for procuring items for the troops, army sources said.
A senior Ordnance Corps officer major general GS Narula is also under the scanner as these procurements were done during his tenure as additional director general (Clothing, Necessaries and Administration). The officer is currently also posted at Army Headquarters here.
The office of the ADG (CN and A) is responsible for making procurements for troops leaving for UN missions. The probe, headed by Signals Officer-in-Chief chief Lt Gen P Mohapatra has been mandated to scan all the procurements made since 2006, sources said.
In procurement of shoes, they added, the Army bought two types of boots — Disruptive and Black Formals — at double the market price at Rs 1,700 each, whereas the same were available for half the price in the market.
