Oscar winning musician AR Rahman has urged people to keep the surroundings of the Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti Dargah here clean.

He made this request during his visit to the Dargah on Saturday.

Speaking to newsmen, Rahman said, "We get a lot of spiritual benefits, and we find peace here, but outside, it is horrible...it is really unhealthy. There is food being sold in a shop situated next to a live running drainage; its all stinking. So I got some of my friends here to help me out in this kind of thing. The people here really want this place to be clean.”

“The government should help keep this place clean. It is just to facilitate the intentions across, as a bridge and I hope it happens, God willing," he added.

The noted music director offered prayers at the Dargah along with sound technician Resul Pookutty, also an Oscar winner, and filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor.

Rehman and Pookutty won the Oscar for their work in the film Slumdog Millionaire.
