If Satyamev Jayate has inspired you to go organic in the kitchen, here is good news. Several outlets and shops have started delivering organic food to the doorstep of customers to feed the growing appetite for healthy and naturally-grown food.

Among the known names selling organic products like vegetable, pulses, grains and spices in Ahmedabad are Sardar Farm in Kathwada and Asal in Paldi and Arya Sanskriti. All these provide home delivery services.

Gandhi Ashram also offers a vast range of organic produce at its various outlets. There is also the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA)’s Rudi brand of naturally-grown products. In Vadodara, Jatan sells organic food products through its outlet called Vasundhara. Jatan also works to educate farmers about organic farming.

Products sold in these outlets shun chemical fertilizers and pesticides and are, instead, grown using cow dung and urine, fertilizer prepared from neem leaves, water of tulsi leaves etc. Vermiculture is used to keep the soil rich.

Asal in Paldi area has seen a sharp rise in customers over the years. “We have regular customers who have been buying our organic products for the last several years. They book products over the phone and we deliver it to their homes. We get around 4,000-4,500 clients a month, which is a significant rise from earlier times,” says Jeetubhai Shah who started Asal.

SEWA’s Rudi products that are sold from an outlet in Navrangpura does not have the stamp of organic food. “But 60% of the farmers associated with SEWA do farming using traditional methods where pesticides are not used. However, our products are naturally grown and not completely organic,” says Uma Swaminathan of Rudi brand. Around 3.50 lakh farmers work under the SEWA umbrella.
