With the protests demanding statehood to Telangana seen hitting the central and state governments on revenue receipts, the Centre has summoned Andhra Pradesh governor ESL Narasimhan to Delhi.

Narasimhan is expected to provide a first-hand view of the situation in the state, particularly with the general strike called by pro-Telangana groups further intensifying and moving in the direction of paralysing the administration in the state.

In response to a call from the prime minister’s office, Narasimhan is expected to reach Delhi on Friday evening and meet Manmohan on Saturday.  According to sources, the inputs to be provided by Narasimhan to the prime minister would “make or break” Telangana statehood plans as he visit to Delhi comes ahead of a crucial AICC and core committee meeting.

“The governor is always seen as an anti-Telangana force and was also accused of sending incorrect reports to the Centre. In fact, several Congress leaders from Telangana feel that false reports sent by the governor contributed to the delay in taking a decision on the issue. Now, no one from Telangana has any positive expectations on the inputs to be provided by him to the prime minister,” a senior Congress leader said.

The Centre is also said to be keen on summoning chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to know the impact of the strike on the government and administration.

The Congress leadership is also said to be in a mood to call the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief B Satyanarayana to assess the impact of pro-Telangana movement on the future of the party.
