Despite the formal approval from Gujarat home ministry for creating two new police stations, the police department is finding it difficult to get buildings to house the new police stations.

Anandnagar and Ranip are the two new police-stations that have been created.

Cops are increasingly finding it tough to locate a suitable place in Anandnagar area - a locality where land prices are high. Meanwhile, the district collector office gave a piece of land near Ranip police chowki where a new building is expected to come up soon.

"We had sent the proposal last year itself. The government approved the two new stations a month back. Only this Tuesday, the district collector gave land for Ranip police station, but in Anandnagar, we are facing difficulty to locate land," said a senior police official.

Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat, deputy commissioner of police, zone-1, under whose jurisdiction Anandnagar police will fall, has been informed about the approval.

However, he said that he is unaware about detailed developments like the strength of the police station, buildings and other logistical arrangements.

The news of creation of a new police station, on the other hand, has come as a respite for cops at Satellite police station.

Anandnagar police station will be carved out from Satellite, which, at present, accounts for half of latter's jurisdiction. However, Satellite cops haven't been informed yet.

"It's going to help us anyway. This police station (Satellite) has become one of most disturbed stations considering the kind of cases we are handling. There is hardly any serious crime but petty issues make for high profile complaints," said an official.
