ShareNEW DELHI:Students at the Amity University in Noida on Thursday protested against the authorities for imposing a strict dress code. Classes were boycotted and students shouted slogans against the management.
The new dress code does not allow jeans, T-shirts, skirts or sneakers on campus. "This is a stupid rule. Even in DU, JNU, Jamia and universities across the country, undergraduates are allowed to wear what they want to, so long as it is not obscene. So why are they imposing these medieval ideas on us," said a first year student.
According to the rule, boys and girls are to be formally dressed at all times. This means girls can wear formal suits, salwaar kameez or sari. For the guys, formal trousers, shirts and formal shoes are a must. The management justifies the decision by saying that this will impart a good impression to headhunters and industry bigwigs who visit the campus.
"When placements are around the corner, everybody dresses formally, because we want to give a good impression to potential employers. We are sensible enough to know what is good for us," saida third year student.
The students said they would hold talks with the management and ask them to reconsider this decision.
