The Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter case seemed to have taken a new turn on Saturday, with Ajay Patel, chairman of Ahmedabad District Co-operative Bank and a close aide of state home minister Amit Shah, and Yashpal Chudasma, brother of suspended IPS officer Abhay Chudasma, reportedly recording their statements in connection with the case at the Mumbai office of the CBI.

However, there was no confirmation of the report. CBI sleuths refused to comment whether the statements had indeed been recorded. "I cannot disclose anything," a CBI officer told DNA. However, unconfirmed reports said the duo reached the CBI office on Saturday and recorded their statements before the sleuths. Both were summoned earlier by the CBI.

The duo were summoned for their alleged involvement in offering Rs50 lakh to the petitioner of the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case and brother of deceased, Rubabuddin Shaikh. They were also accused of threatening Rubabuddin.

Unconfirmed reports said the duo indicated that they had offered money and even threatened Rubabuddin on the instructions of a political leader. The duo, however, reportedly said that apart from meeting Rubabuddin, they were not involved in the  case.
