Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation had received complaints about separate licences.
Now, selling multiple items under one roof is not going to be a taxing affair for businessmen. They will, at least, not have to undergo torturous procedures to procure separate licences for different items they sell under one roof.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)'s standing committee, in their meeting on Thursday, sanctioned the implementation of a single health licence system.
The AMC's health department in 2003 had increased the health licence fee assigned to the edible and non-edible categories. The civic body had often received complaints that procuring a separate license for every single item they sell made the process longer and more complicated. The civic body therefore mooted the decision to issue only one licence to sell multiple items under one roof.
According to the new norms, the AMC has decided the criteria and licence fees according to the number of items a shopkeeper keeps, and area of his shop. If the shop keeper has more than three items and if the shop area extends beyond 51 square metres and 250 square metres, the shop keeper would have to pay Rs1,500 and Rs3,000 respectively. The maximum amount for procuring a single health licence would be Rs30,000 if the shop area is more than 251 square metres. The AMC has continued the higher licence fee structure as decided in 2003.
As per the official guidelines presented by the civic body, shopkeepers can register for a single health licence and the number of items they can sell by October 10 this year. Shopkeepers who have multiple licences and come after the set deadline for the registration would have to pay the fees for two years.
AMC officials believe the system of a single health license would encourage people to procure the licence as it is less taxing.
