New Delhi: Samajwadi Party today attacked the "ungrateful" Congress for fielding its candidate in Firozabad Lok Sabha by-polls against the party supremo's daughter-in-law and reminded it that the SP did not put up candidates in Amethi and Rai Bareli.

SP leader Amar Singh sought to project the Congress as "ungrateful", asking "we saved their government (after the Left parted ways on the issue of nuclear deal), but this is what we got in return for our friendly act."

Singh recited a Hindi film song to target Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, suggesting that despite the loyalty shown by them what they got in return is "betrayal".

The SP leader, who was speaking to reporters at the residence of RLD chief Ajit Singh, showered praise on him for supporting Firozabad SP candidate Dimple Yadav, daughter-in-law of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.

"On the one hand there is someone like Ajit Singh, and on the other they are...the pain. We did not field candidates in Rai Bareli, Amethi (the Lok Sabha seats of Sonia Gandhi and his son Rahul). Apart from this, we saved their government," Singh said.

"Ajit Singh supported Dimple Yadav. He (Ajit Singh) was of the view that Mulayam Singh's daughter-in-law was like his daughter-in-law and where there is question of the honour of daughter-in-law, there can not be politics," he said.

When Congress was in need, his party supported them but now they do not "even recognise" him when their (Congress') purpose was fulfilled, Amar Singh charged.
