After loads of controversies and objections, the Alpha One is all set to open its mall in Ahmedabad on Saturday, but without a multiplex. The mall developer, Alpha G Corp, however, is confident of getting the NOC for its multiplex, Cinepolis by Diwali.

Meanwhile, the association of Vastrapur residents is preparing to take legal steps to halt the opening of a multiplex and KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) outlet in the mall. But Dr. Prodipta Sen, executive director, marketing, corporate affairs & retail, Alpha G Corp, is going ahead with the plan of opening the mall partially on Saturday.

"Technically and legally no one can stop us. We are opening the mall with more than 80 brands in 39 outlets on Saturday. The remaining area of the mall is expected to start by the end of October," said Dr Sen.

With an investment of more than Rs360 crore, Alpha G Corp has built the mall in an area of 7.04 lakh square feet. "Out of the total, we are launching the mall with 39 outlets spread over 2.34 lakh square feet," he said.

According to Sen, there are certain people who have started the controversy to suit their vested interests. "This controversy will die a natural death as all the objections raised are baseless," he said.

The multiplex of the mall, Cinepolis, is ready to start but is awaiting the NOC from the collector. "The process of getting NOC from a local government body is on and Cinepolis is expecting to get the permission to open soon," Sen said.

The residents of the societies near by the mall claim that they have raised objections against the mall during a public hearing three years ago. "There is a marked change in the construction design than what was told to us at the public hearing five years ago," said Pushpdutt Vyas, a resident of Akash-II flats. He also said that the mall developer has placed its air-conditioning plant and generator sets facing residential societies that create noise pollution.

Vijay Nehra, collector of Ahmedabad, said that the developers need to obtain permission for starting multiplex for which a public hearing is going on.
